Groups

This section is for players who would like to start a group, or find a group in which to play.  It is not really for beginners or those who can't read music and sight-read fairly well. If you are not sure, I would encourage you to contact the following groups directly and discuss. We are all trying to help people to engage with the recorder.

If you are a beginner and looking for instruction, then look at the "Classes" options on the menu.

Please let me know on brisbanerecorderhub@gmail.com  to amend or add to any of the following information.

What would you like to do ?

1.Start a Group ?

Free or Low-cost Venues

Church Halls     These halls are the under-appreciated foundation of so many musical performances in Brisbane - and are normally very reasonably priced. Performing for several church services/events per year would go a long way towards many people embracing recorder music.  There are hundreds of years of beautiful church music written for the recorder.

McDonalds Restaurants  Don't dismiss this option lightly.  Their "party"  rooms are now called meeting rooms and are available for free. They have tables and chairs and work surprisingly well.  Have a look at a number of them.  You also have coffee, parking and a ready-made audience who are often impressed.  Contact each restaurant to book.

Brisbane City Council Libraries  - normally very heavily booked by other community groups

Brisbane City Hall  50's Plus Club - In the basement of City Hall. Great facilities and normally heavily booked. Contact the BCC web site to enquire.

Communify site has many affordable venues listed. https://bookings.communify.org.au/    including

Woolloongabba Sub Station- Great smaller-sized venue for performances or groups in gentrified Woolloongabba fiveways.
